Hydroid receives major contract from the Royal New Zealand Navy to supply REMUS 100 systems to support the Navy’s mine countermeasures program.

(July 2006 – Pocasset, MA)  Hydroid LLC announced today that they have recently received a multi-year contract from the Royal New Zealand Navy (RNZN) for multiple REMUS Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) systems.

The REMUS 100 systems, to be delivered by Hydroid in 2006 and 2007, will be configured with a sensor suite specifically suited to meet the Navy’s requirements for mine countermeasure activities (MCM).

Commenting on the recent contract Commander Gordon Stamp from the Royal New Zealand Navy stated. “REMUS is a key element in the RNZN’s burgeoning MCM and Rapid Environmental Assessment (REA) capability, coming to our attention as a result of its successful employment in the Northern Arabian Gulf and discussions with other navies that have introduced this UUV into service have reinforced the utility of this particular product.”

Kevin McCarthy, Hydroid’s vice president of marketing stated, “Hydroid is thankful that the Royal New Zealand’s Navy has shown confidence in Hydroid and the REMUS technology in being able to substantively add to their MCM capabilities. The Navy is demonstrating forward looking vision investing in state of the art REMUS technology, and in the future of employing UUV for mine hunting. Hydroid also wants to thank New Zealand Ocean Technology for actively promoting the REMUS technology in New Zealand in the past several years.”

Ron Tyson, “Managing Director of New Zealand Ocean Technology in New Zealand commented, “We are delighted to participate in this project. The REMUS 100 AUV system forms our latest delivery of equipment and support, which goes back 20 years. We wish the Navy well in the deployment of this highly advanced package”.

Hydroid, LLC holds the exclusive license from the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution for the manufacture and further development of the REMUS Autonomous Underwater Vehicle (AUV) technology.
