SEATRAC’S WHALE SENTINEL FINALIST FOR $100,000 OCEAN INNOVATION AWARD

During a year-long competition, with more than 100 applications from around the globe, SeaTrac emerged as one of six finalists for Ocean Exchange’s 2019 Orcelle Award, given to a solution that advances our understanding of the ocean, minimizing human impact, and resulting in more resilient bodies of water, including healthy marine life and coastlines. SeaTrac proposed an autonomous method of listening for whales by towing a hydrophone from its solar powered USV, pairing it with best-in-class mammal identification software, and broadcasting the results in real time through the WhaleAlert communications channel. >>Full details

TELEDYNE MARINE EXTENDS 2020 ACADEMIC PRODUCT GRANT APPLICATION DEADLINE TO MARCH 31

Teledyne Marine has extended the published deadline for academics to submit their applications for the organization’s 2020 Academic Product Grant. The new deadline is March 31, 2020. This grant offers the next generation of technologists and explorers the opportunity to utilize the organization’s leading-edge technology for planned 2020 programs free of charge. 

Teledyne Marine delivers the widest breadth of technology in the industry, and is pleased to share a full suite of these technologies with the academic community to address an array of potential global research programs. This grant is open to all students from accredited universities or institutions pursuing oceanographic or hydrographic studies, and provides up to 6 months free product usage and technical consultations to help ensure their success. Products in this year’s grant include: ADCPs, Acoustic Releases, DVLs, Multibeam and Imaging Sonars, PDS software, and Hydrophones. Applicants can apply for one or more of these products as required for their research programs.

Reed Exhibitions Announces That Oceanology International 2020 Has Been Postponed to December 1 – 3, 2020.

Reed Exhibitions has today announced that Oceanology International London 2020, originally scheduled for March 17-19, 2020, will now take place from 1-3 December at the Excel London, following the escalation of COVID-19 in Europe.

Speaking about the announcement, Jonathan Heastie, Portfolio Director at Reed Exhibitions, said:

“The health and safety of our exhibitors, visitors and staff is of course our number one priority. We have been closely monitoring the situation and the notices issued by the World Health Organisation (WHO) as well as Public Health England and the authorities in London.
